Shellie Gazdik was a force to be reckoned with during her time on the track for the Buccaneers. By the time she left Beloit, she either owned or was a part of 12 school records (seven indoor and five outdoor). Thirteen years after graduating from Beloit, she still holds five individual records; 55m high hurdles and 200m intermediate hurdles in indoor and 400m, 100m high hurdles, and 400m intermediate hurdles in the outdoor season, and was a Two Time National Qualifier.

In 2004, Gazdik earned All-American status, finishing fourth in the country in 400m intermediate hurdles. “Shellie was as competitive an athlete as I have ever coached; her competitive spirit was indescribable” says Brian Bliese, head track and field coach. Gazdik was also the consummate teammate, and her relay teams still hold Beloit records for the 4x200m and the sprint medley in indoor, and the 4x100m and 4x400m during the outdoor season. “She was good at everything” recalls coach Dave Eckburg, when speaking about her venture into running cross country as well.

Not only did she break records on the track for Beloit, but Gazdik was also awarded the Janssen, as well as the coveted Blanket Award, the Beloit College Athletic Department’s highest honor.
