Hall of Honor
Soccer always gave Derek Gueldenzoph great satisfaction. It was one of the most rewarding things in his life. But it was far from the only thing. A trip to Wales midway through his high school years expanded his thinking, gave him new perspective on many things in his life, and taught him to value responsibility. All of those experiences led him to Beloit College, and to the Buccaneer Men’s Soccer team. A four-year starter and three-time All-Conference forward for the Buccaneer Men’s Soccer squad, Gueldenzoph was a standout in the sport he loved. He earned the team’s Golden Boot Award in each of his four seasons and was the squad’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior, as well as a member of the All-State Team his final year. He was also Academic All-Conference for three seasons. The recipient of the Donald “Red” Janssen Award following his junior year and the Pat Dawson Award at the end of his senior year, Gueldenzoph still ranks as the fifth-leading goal scorer in Buccaneer Men’s Soccer history with 32. After graduating from Beloit with degrees in Psychology and Government he immediately went to work in the Beloit Admissions Office, a move that would become his life’s work. After Beloit he worked in the Admissions office at Austin College in Sherman, Texas; at the College of Wooster in Ohio and continues in the field today at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he is the Director of Admissions.
