Hall of Honor
A star performer in cross country and track, “Mike” Hartman came to Beloit College from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, although he lived in Beloit for the majority of his youth. He was a two-time Midwest Conference champion in cross country who earned all-American honors in 1964 when he placed 12th out of 178 in the NCAA small-college division. Captain of the cross country team his junior year and co-captain his senior year, he led the teams to Midwest Conference finishes of third and fifth, respectively. As a senior he set the 4-mile conference-meet record of 20:41.8. A standout in both indoor and outdoor track, he was named MVP in all sports. In 1992, the 5-mile men’s event in the annual Beloit Cross Country English-Style Invitational Meet was co-named in his honor. He continues his running career in marathons around the country. Coming from a long line of Beloit alumni, Mike lives in Atlanta where he has his own financial consulting business.
