    Football, Coach, Administrator
With the challenge of reviving a nearly dead Football program, Ed DeGeorge arrived at Beloit College in 1977.  Twenty-nine years later he would retire as the all-time winningest coach in Buccaneer Football history.  Prior to his tenure, the longest-serving coach spanned 12 seasons and the career win mark was 53 while the team had won only 94 games, with no championships, in the 30 seasons prior to DeGeorge taking over the program.  In 29 seasons DeGeorge accumulated 135 wins and five Midwest Conference North Division Championships, including three straight from 1990-92.  From 1990-95 the Bucs had an overall record of 41-17, which included undefeated Conference seasons in both 1990 and 1991.  DeGeorge’s teams were known for their intelligent play, hard hitting and winning close games.  Amazingly, nearly half of his coaching victories were by nine points or less.  He is a member of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and the Beloit Historical Society Halls of Fame.  During his service to the College he was a dedicated teacher and mentor to the 1,500-plus student-athletes whose lives he touched.  In addition to his coaching, he also served as Beloit’s Director of Athletics from 1985 to 2004.  His Commitment to Beloit College continues to this day as he serves as an assistant coach for son Dave’s Buccaneer Baseball program.  His passion for coaching passed on to his three sons, all of whom have been head coaches at the NCAA Division III level.  He is still a welcome site around the Athletic Department and the campus.  He and his wife, Nancy, are still heavily invested in the well-being of Beloit College and its student-athletes.
