A native of St. Charles, Illinois, Michele Preuss transferred to Beloit in 1987 and made her mark immediately on the basketball and softball programs.  A first-team All-Conference selection in both sports, she also achieved national recognition in assist average and batting average.  On the court, as a junior she led the team with an average of 17.6 points per game with 4.9 rebounds.  Senior year she contributed 16.5 points per game and 5.1 rebounds.  Voted most valuable player in both her junior and senior years and a co-captain in 1989, she was a women’s record holder with the most assists, most steals and most points per game.  Her versatile playing earned her recognition at the Northland College Invitational and the Rockford College Lady Regent Classic as well as a place on the all tournament team at the Beloit Invitational.  A North Division first team shortstop, she led the team in five offensive categories including batting an impressive .453 with 15 RBIs, earning her a national ranking of 22nd among the nation’s hitters and selection as the team’s offensive player of the year in 1988 and elected co-captain in 1989, Preuss won the Janssen and the Peterson awards.
