In describing himself coming out of high school Josh Hinz noted that he is “athletic, humorous and hard-working.”  He was not just an outstanding Men’s Basketball player while at Beloit.  “I would say he is arguably one of the best players, if not the best player, in the program’s history,” said his coach, Cecil Youngblood.  “He made everyone around him play at a higher level.  And his talents and accomplishments speak for themselves.”  A four-year letterwinner for the Buccaneer, Hinz was a three-time First Team All-MWC honoree and a two-time All-American and All-Midwest Region selection.  His name is all over the Beloit Basketball Record Book.  In addition to ranking in the top three in six single-game categories and in four single-season lists, he still holds the career record for points, field goals made, free throws made and rebounds, all of this while shooting 55% from the field and 80% from the free throw line.  He had two 50-point games in his career and still shares the NCAA Division III single-game record for rebounds with 36.  Youngblood finished by saying “He was one of the best players I have ever had the privilege to coach in any sport and one of the most talented I had seen at the highest level of Division III.”
